"In December 2018, Google announced their decision to shut down Google Plus for consumers in April 2019 due to low usage and challenges involved in maintaining a successful product that meets consumers' expectations". This is the email I awoke to this morning, guess it had to happen sooner or later as the competition between facebook, twitter and some other's became to great for Google Plus to become a viable alternative.
How many of us really care? I had two Google Plus accounts one for personal and one for business and never really found the time to post updates as I was already too involved with twitter and facebook. I am taking it as a blessing and for me it just means taking the Google + follow button off my website and forget they were ever there.
When it all went wrong for Google was they tried to force everyone to log into other well known platforms such as Youtube with a Google Plus account and met with stiff resistance from people that just didn't want to change their unique Youtube username and Google Plus did have to accomodate them in the end. I still have my Youtube account its Bluegroper and remember the pressure to change it to my name or business name, that wasn't happening. I had to have a Google Plus account to continue using Youtube.
I haven't posted much on Google Plus and even forgotten I had an account until this mornings email. One less social media account to worry about.
