Hi my name Des Kerrigan, I am Bluegroper Web Development and I'm an independant web developer with years of experience in Software Development, Business Solutions and Project Management. I have a Telecommunications background with Telstra in Product Engineering and IT, 7 years as a Team Leader with IBM in software development, 5 years in the transport and warehouse industry with NYK Logistic's as a software and web developer. Now an independent sole trader , I have several clients in Australia as well as in London United Kingdom, and can offer my solutions worldwide.
Over the years, web sites have become quite phenomenal and developers are developing web sites using an ad hoc approach, which causes problems and unnecessary expense for their customers. One way of solving the problems these developers are having is have in place a repeatable process and developing a method for developers to use to bring customers high quality websites. My method is simple and uncomplicated but follows the Software Engineering Institute Standards (SEI) and is tailored for small business web development without a huge overhead. It is all about managing customer requirements and having in place a repeatable process.
A well designed website has information and navigation laid out in a logical, consistent manner. Your website should be more than just attractive, it should be a valuable source of information. Creating visitor confidence in your product, information or service is essential if you want them to purchase from your website. Before starting a website you should sit down and write down your requirements. You should know the goal of your site, your budget, your audience, required features and functionality. Its also best to look at other sites similar in size to what you want, similar look and feel to what you want, visit your competitors sites, so you can plan your site. Arrange your content by using one of the popular free Open Source Content Management Systems like Mambo, Joomla or Drupal. Or I can provide a custom built easy to use form base system developed in PHP with a Mysql database.
It is important to have your website meet the needs of people visting your website, unless you have a friendly user interface, it will not meet the needs of your organisation. See Web Interface Requirements and Usability.

Search Engine Optimisation
If you have a website whether it be for your personal profile or small business then you would probably want to be listed on the first page of an internet search results. And that is not surprising as major studies show the majority of internet users searching Google, Bing and Yahoo only bother to look at the first few pages of search results. The studies also show that internet users also consider the search result pages to be good advice, meaning that the websites at the top of the results have a natural advantage. And there are a host of internet companies that offer SEO services all making claims that they can get your website to list on the first page of Google results. When the truth is that no one can make that promise as no one truly knows what Google have up their sleeve with their constant improvement process. In fact many legitimate business websites and blogs have been hit hard disappearing from search results altogether by Google's Panda & Penguin algorithm updates because the SEO companies they hired used spammy SEO techniques or SEO over-optimisation.
The top reasons for SEO penalties from Google and what you should avoid are poor quality backlinks, lack of fresh content, poor SEO, lack of social interaction, and more importantly over-optimisation by spending more time working for search engines than attracting visitors is not being productive. To ensure your website has the best chances of achieving a higher ranking with Google and all the search engines, download Google's SEO starter kit, sign up for webmaster tools and follow Google simple advice.
The Sematics Web
The Semantic Web is a web that is able to describe things in a way that computers can understand. For example apples and oranges are different but are both fruit, I like apples better then I do oranges. The Beatles were a popular band from Liverpool, John Lennon was a member of the Beatles, they recorded Hey Jude. Sentences like these can be understood by people. But how can they be understood by computers?
Until know computers only understood syntax and keywords and didn't know the relationships between content and its importance to people just using keywords. The Resource Description Framework (RDF) is a language for describing information and resources on the web. Arranging your data using RDF, makes it possible for Google and other computer programs ("web spiders") to search, discover, pick up, collect, analyse and process information from the web. I currently work with the popular content management system Drupal using RDF and Taxonomy terms in building website's to make user friendly to search engines.
Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a web feed format used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries and news headlines in a standardised format. Subscribers to your feed can then be kept up to date when you update your website content. It also can provide a convenient way for you to receive content "feeds" from a variety of sources, including the latest news headlines from news sources to your website. I can help with creating your feed from your existing website blog/news, automatically updating when new content is posted and syndicate it through the popular Google Feedburner.

Open Graph Meta Tags
The Open Graph Protocol enables you to integrate your Web pages into the social graph. It is currently designed for Web pages representing profiles of real-world things — things like movies, sports teams, celebrities, and restaurants. Including Open Graph tags on your Web page, makes your page equivalent to a Facebook Page. It is a way to organise how your content is viewed through social media, when someone clicks on a button the social media site uses Open Graph to display a summary and picture that represents your site. This is done through Open Graph Meta tags and used with facebook, google+, pinterest and many other socual sites. Have your site social media friendly by using Open Graph.
